Individual Recall
What you see: An X flag (white with a blue cross) is hoisted at the starting signal. One horn blast.
What it means: One or more boats are over the line. If it’s you, you must go back and start again.
What you do:
- If you know you were over, sail back immediately to the pre-start side.
- Cross the line again when you’re ready.
- You have until 4 minutes after the starting signal to do this.
- Do NOT keep racing. If you do, you’ll be scored OCS (over the course side), which is much worse than any other score.
How to know if it’s you: The race officer might point or signal. But if you’re not near the line, it’s probably not you. Look for obvious guidance from the committee boat.
